Tension Headaches -
Here are some basic facts about tension (stress) headaches. They usually affect women more often than men. Generally, you feel them coming on slowly, usually in the middle of the day. You can have daily headaches or they can occur episodically. They are the most common type of headache, affecting from 30% - 80% of all adults.

We have found that the main cause of tension headaches can be traced to excess stress within the spinal cord. This spinal cord tension is often triggered by stress, fatigue, depression, certain activities in which you hold your head in the same position for a long time (such as working on a computer), anxiety, PMS or hormonal changes, repressed anger, sleeping in an abnormal position and teeth grinding.

Many who experience tension headaches rely on non-prescription medications to reduce the pain. Ironically, overuse of these drugs can actually trigger subsequent episodes of tension headaches!
Non-medical approaches may actually prove more beneficial.  Read More

Breastfeeding Bonus -
Some people think there is nothing more tender than to see a mother nursing her baby, After all, contrary to our cultural fascination with breasts, that’s the real reason why nature gave women breasts!
And then…along came baby formula, “manufactured” nutrition for babies, that was marketed as “just like mothers’ milk,” and that was the end of nursing for many mothers who didn’t like the idea of being “tied down.” But how can anything but mothers’ milk be just like mothers’ milk?
It’s wonderful that so many mothers today are learning how healthy breastfeeding is for their babies and for themselves! And the benefits start right from day one!

It’s All About Time
The Sixth Principle in Chiropractic states there is no process which does not require time, including the healing process. BJ Palmer (the developer of Chiropractic) believed that with time and clarity in the nerve system, the body could heal itself in just about any situation.

A sick cell is replaced by a healthy one – healthy cells become healthy tissues – healthy tissues become healthy organs – healthy organs make a healthy human being. The conversion from sickness to wellness is an innate process that can only be performed by the doctor within you, via a well toned nerve system.
Healing is therefore a process of RE-creating yourself, one cell at a time, over a period of time. The power that made your body is more than capable of converting you from sickness to wellness. All it needs is a clear pathway and enough sand in the hour glass to accomplish it  (via theweeklysticky.com)

“Smell Something Burning?”
A family physician tells his patient “there are 3 stages of pain. The first stage, the pain is bad enough to catch your attention. The second stage it takes hold of you, and at the third stage it finally compels you to do something about it.” The patient asks his doctor, “when it gets to stage three what should I do?” Without a blink, the doctor turns to him and says “take some Motrin” (True and sad story).
The worst part is the patient actually thought it was good advice. When he relays the story to his Chiropractor, the Chiropractor responds “if your smoke detector went off in your home, the 1st time it would probably catch your attention, the 2nd time it would most likely take hold of you. But if it went off a 3rd time and you were finally compelled to do something, would you take the batteries out so you wouldn’t have to hear it anymore? “Of course not,” the patient replied “that would be stupid” (The patient got the point).
The moral of the story: Symptoms are your body’s attempt to save itself. Masking your symptoms (whether it be pain, nausea, diarrhea or fever) with drugs doesn’t fix the problem, it can actually make the situation worse. It’s smarter to get to the CAUSE of the problem and deal with it the RIGHT way. That’s why they call Chiropractors DC’s  because they are Doctors of finding the Cause!  (via theweeklysticky.com)

“Chiropractic Colored Glasses”
What does the world look like through Chiropractic colored glasses? Does your health shine brighter…are your relationships with friends and family more in focus…is your job performance sharper and crisper?
You ‘see’ everything through your nerve system – how you feel, how you interact with the people around you, how you perform at home or at work. When your nerves are stressed, the line between barely existing and fully living is blurred. However, the more clear your nerve system, the better your ability to interact physically, mentally and spiritually with the world around you; and ultimately the better your quality of Life.
When a Holistic Chiropractor adjusts the stress from your nerve system, it’s like cleaning the dirt, streaks and smudges from the lens through which you interpret your world – and with a clear lens you can see all your potential. Life is vibrant when you’re viewing it through Chiropractic glasses. (via the weeklysticky.com)

5 Important Health Benefits of Chia Seeds
Chi-chi-chi-chia! These seeds, which used to grow the green fur on the novelty Chia Pets are actually packed full of nutrition. Like other super seeds such as flax and hemp seeds, chia seeds contain omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and protein. The seeds have a delicate nutty taste that blends well with pretty much any meal or snack you choose.
If you combine chia seeds with water, the seeds form a gel. When you eat the seeds on their own, this reaction takes place in your stomach. The gel slows digestion, so you feel full for longer. It also keeps your blood sugar levels from spiking.
You can find chia seeds at health food stores and some well-stocked grocery stores, depending on where you live. If you cannot find the seeds locally, they are sold on many online stores. The seeds are typically sold whole, though you can grind them and get the same health benefits. Chia seeds have a long shelf life, in part because they are so high in antioxidants. The antioxidants keep the seeds from going bad.
Benefits of Eating Chia Seeds:  1. Omega-3 fatty acids 2. Keeps blood sugar balanced 3. High in minerals 4. Helps with weight loss 5. Full of antioxidants  Read More
Dr. Jay’s Note:  We’ve been eating chia seeds in the Weber household for a few years now. Powerful & easy addition to any smoothie. My Wonder Woman (the Mrs.) likes to add them to her cold jasmine green tea for a bubble tea or boba effect.

New Research Reveals The Unique Protective Effects of Avocado Oil
As a culinary oil, avocado oil compares well with olive oil, and like olive oil, it is one of the few edible oils not derived from seeds. However, the unique protective effects of avocado oil against free radicals in mitochondria are truly outstanding and may effectively reduce chronic degenerative diseases in those who incorporate this amazing oil into their diet.
Avocado oil contains proteins, lecithin, beta-carotene and more than twenty percent essential unsaturated fatty acids. The fatty acids contained are palmitic, palmitoleic, stearic, oleic, linoleic and linolenic.
The research team used yeast cells — those used in wine and beer production — to examine avocado oil’s properties.
“The reason why we have chosen yeast,” explains Cortes-Rojo, “is that (a) this microorganism is easier to study than other biological models due to its relative simplicity and (b) because studies our group published in 2009 and 2011 found that yeast mitochondria are very resistant to free radicals due to the sort of fat that forms its envelope, which is highly resistant to oxidation. The same kind of fat can be found in avocado oil; but, in addition, avocados also contain some plant pigments that inhibit oxidation. That is why we decided to test whether these avocado properties could increase even more the yeast’s resistance to mitochondrial oxidation.”  Read More
Dr. Jay’s Note:  Oils that I recommend include: Avocado, Olive, Safflower, Flaxseed & Sunflower.
Avoid Soybean, Corn & Canola Oil.

“Brown Spots in Your Lawn?”
You’re proud of your lawn. You water it, feed it on schedule and try to keep the neighborhood kids off of it. But you missed a few spots with the fertilizer spreader and now dull, brown patches where the grass was STARVED of potential growth energy begin to show. A similar situation can happen inside you.
All the cells, organs and tissues that make up your body need an even distribution of neurotrophic (Life sustaining) energy from your Nerve System in order to flourish and grow. If parts of your body are deprived of this energy, likewise you’ll develop dull brown patches (dis-ease) on your internal lawn. Chiropractors refer to it as being ‘Subluxated.’
The goal of Holistic Chiropractic care is 100% coverage of neurotrophic Life energy in your body – and that’s achieved by keeping your Nerve System clear of stress-induced blockages in the spinal cord. If you don’t want to see ugly, brown, weak patches in your health, stay EVEN and consistent with your Holistic Chiropractic care. (via theweeklysticky.com)
