“Smell Something Burning?”
A family physician tells his patient “there are 3 stages of pain. The first stage, the pain is bad enough to catch your attention. The second stage it takes hold of you, and at the third stage it finally compels you to do something about it.” The patient asks his doctor, “when it gets to stage three what should I do?” Without a blink, the doctor turns to him and says “take some Motrin” (True and sad story).
The worst part is the patient actually thought it was good advice. When he relays the story to his Chiropractor, the Chiropractor responds “if your smoke detector went off in your home, the 1st time it would probably catch your attention, the 2nd time it would most likely take hold of you. But if it went off a 3rd time and you were finally compelled to do something, would you take the batteries out so you wouldn’t have to hear it anymore? “Of course not,” the patient replied “that would be stupid” (The patient got the point).
The moral of the story: Symptoms are your body’s attempt to save itself. Masking your symptoms (whether it be pain, nausea, diarrhea or fever) with drugs doesn’t fix the problem, it can actually make the situation worse. It’s smarter to get to the CAUSE of the problem and deal with it the RIGHT way. That’s why they call Chiropractors DC’s  because they are Doctors of finding the Cause!  (via theweeklysticky.com)

Autism Rates Jump Again, As Diagnosis Improves
The number of children diagnosed with autism jumped 23 percent between 2006 and 2008, according to the latest federal estimate.
Now, 1 in 88 children has been diagnosed with autism, according to figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The rapid rise prompted calls to declare the developmental disorder an epidemic. “This is a national emergency in need of a national plan,” Mark Roithmayr, president of the advocacy group Autism Speaks, said at a CDC media briefing Thursday.
But CDC scientists weren’t about to go that far. Instead, they said that most if not all of that startling increase could be due to better recognition of the disorder by parents, doctors and teachers.  Read More
Dr. Jay’s Note:  From 2002 to 2008, the number of children diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder has risen 78 percent and now one out of every 88 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with autism. The ‘experts’ continue to claim that this increase is mainly due to better diagnosis techniques. I don’t buy it! These increasing rates should trigger epidemic alarms.
As with all diseases, Autism is triggered by excess stress. We continue to poison our children with fake & heavily processed foods, chemical filled drinking water & an ever increasing vaccination load that contains known neurological toxins. To think that these acts don’t carry negative side-effects (genetic triggers) would be naive at best.
Your best defense? Make informed decisions about your child’s lifestyle & healthcare. Educate yourself about what is going into our children (food, water, drugs, shots, etc.) so that you can be mindful of possible side effects. Investigate all options as there are almost always natural alternatives. Knowledge is power!

“Symptomatic Whack-a-Mole”
The object of the carnival game Whack-a-Mole is to use a mallet to hit as many critters as possible when they pop up in random succession. Trouble is, as you hit one mole, three more pop up and disappear before you can nail them all. Whack-a-Mole is a perfect metaphor for how people are medicated today. Unfortunately in this game you end up on a ton of drugs, for a bunch of problems, with no actual improvement in your health.
According to a NCHS Data brief by the CDC, over the last 10 years the percentage of Americans who took at least one prescription drug in the past month increased from 44% to 48%. The use of two or more drugs increased from 25% to 31%. The use of five or more drugs increased from 6% to 11%. Yet despite taking all these drugs, the US embarrassingly ranks 37th among the world’s industrial countries when it comes to overall health.
For Holistic Chiropractors, health is not defined by how many symptoms you can temporarily ‘whack away’ with drugs, but how well your body can adapt to its environment and heal under its own innate abilities. You have more healing intelligence in your little finger than all the doctors and pharmacies in the world put together. Big Pharma doesn’t believe so, but Holistic Chiropractors do. Keep your Nerve System (Spinal Cord) clear and you won’t have to play their failing game. (via theweeklysticky.com)

Higher Death Risk With Sleeping Pills
ScienceDaily (Feb. 27, 2012) — People are relying on sleeping pills more than ever to get a good night’s rest, but a new study by Scripps Clinic researchers links the medications to a 4.6 times higher risk of death and a significant increase in cancer cases among regular pill users.
The results, published February 27 by the open-access online journal BMJ Open, cast a shadow over a growing segment of the pharmaceutical industry that expanded by 23 percent in the United States from 2006 to 2010 and generated about $2 billion in annual sales.
The possible health hazards
“What our study shows is that sleeping pills are hazardous to your health and might cause death by contributing to the occurrence of cancer, heart disease and other ailments,” said author Daniel F. Kripke, MD, of the Viterbi Family Sleep Center at Scripps Health in San Diego. Read More

Yes, Homeopathy Can Help Depression
This statistic saddens me: More than one out of every 20 Americans experiences depression at any given time, yet fewer than one-third seek help from a mental health professional for this condition, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
One reason for this reluctance: Patients expect to be prescribed antidepressants, and many have concerns about taking these drugs, which is understandable. Antidepressant drugs are supposed to help patients with severe depression, but studies show that they have a low success rate—and have many serious side effects, including suicidal thoughts.
I’ve written previously about how depression needs to be diagnosed and treated by carefully evaluating and addressing each person’s nutritional, hormonal and emotional profile. One underrated therapy is homeopathy, which can help on its own or in conjunction with nutritional and/or hormone therapy.
Let me explain why homeopathy makes more sense for depression than antidepressant drugs. Read More

Doctors still prescribing antibiotics for the ‘wrong diseases’
13 February 2012
Doctors still don’t get it – they continue to hand out prescriptions for antibiotics for health problems that can’t be helped by the drugs, such as coughs and sinusitis.  And they are bringing closer the ‘doomsday’ scenario of the antibiotic-resistant superbug. In the UK alone, doctors are handing out around 1.6 million unnecessary prescriptions for antibiotics at a cost of £8.4 million every year, researchers have discovered. The drugs do absolutely nothing to ease diseases that are caused by a virus – and they add to the growing problem of antibiotic-resistance.
Researchers from Cardiff University have estimated the over-use of antibiotics from a survey of 68 GP practices.   When the doctors at the practices were taught the kind of diseases for which antibiotics should be prescribed, their prescriptions for the drugs fell by 5.5 per cent, resulting in an £830 saving per practice.   If this saving was extrapolated across the UK, total annual savings would amount to £8.4m.(Source: British Medical Journal, 2012; 344: d8173).

Largest National Nurses Union Opposes Mandatory Flu Vaccination as Condition of Employment
Nurses also call for Pharma representatives to step down from federal vaccine board and include a direct-care RN Hospital-based registered nurses, who are members of National Nurses United, will make a statement before the Health and Human Services National Vaccine Advisory Committee in a public forum on Tuesday in Washington, D.C.   NNU, with 170,000 RN members, is the largest professional association and union of direct-care registered nurses in the United States, with more than 95 percent of the nurses working in acute-care hospitals. NNU RNs will speak in opposition to NVAC’s Recommendation #4, “Healthy People 2020”, which mandates that all healthcare providers receive a flu vaccination as a condition of employment.  NNU joins the Occupational Safety and Health Agency, and other major healthcare unions and organizations, who say there is insufficient evidence for the federal government to promote mandatory influenza vaccination programs that might result in employment termination.
NNU is also calling on the pharmaceutical representatives from Pfizer and Novartis, who are members of the NVAC, to recuse themselves from any votes that take place on the issue of the mandatory flu vaccine. The companies stand to make millions of dollars from flu vaccine sales. There are no nurses currently on the NVAC board. “It is unfortunate that for-profit pharmaceutical companies were consulted in this matter yet the voices of the nation’s direct-care hospital RNs have gone unheard,” said NNU co-president Karen Higgins, RN. “Nurses are calling for an open process to explore the best way to protect patients and healthcare workers, not one that is driven by corporate profits.”  Read More
Dr. Jay’s Note:  This is huge. Nurses get a front row seat in seeing the effectiveness & safety issues that keep hounding the vaccine industry. Many do not want to be forced to vaccinate. Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

Military Pokes Holes In Acupuncture Skeptics’ Theory
‘Let’s Give It A Shot’
Army doctors have been told by the top brass to rethink their “pill for every ill” approach to treating pain. For the 47,000 troops who’ve been wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, some of the new options include less tried and true methods, like massage and chiropractic treatments. The military hopes to win over skeptics, many of them in uniform.
Wasserman is the top doctor for the Warrior Transition Battalion at Fort Campbell, Ky. To her own surprise, she’s also now the unit’s physician trained to do acupuncture.
“I actually had a demonstration of acupuncture on me, and I’m not a spring chicken,” she says, “and it didn’t make me 16 again, but it certainly did make me feel better than I had, so I figured, hey … let’s give it a shot with our soldiers here.”
In recent years, military doctors have turned to acupuncture in special pain clinics and for troops in battle zones. Last year, the Army surgeon general began making the alternative treatments more widely available.
Steering Away From Painkillers
Remalia says his headaches have disappeared, and he’s relying less on his cabinet full of pain medication. To Col. Kevin Galloway, that’s mission accomplished. He’s in charge of carrying out recommendations from the Army’s Pain Management Task Force, which focused heavily on unconventional therapies.
“You can throw fairly cheap pharmaceuticals at the problem now and push the problem to someone else later if you’re not really working on what the genesis of the pain is,” he says.
Galloway says if soldiers get hooked on high-powered painkillers, the Department of Veterans Affairs may be dealing with the side effects for decades to come. Already, at least 40 percent of veterans entering the VA system are coping with pain.  Read More
Dr. Jay’s Note:  If you were to accidentally step on a dog’s tail - Where would the noise come out? The yelping sounds from the dog’s mouth are symptoms of something greater going on & simply treating these symptoms by trying to eliminate the dog’s ability to vocalize a health issue with drugs or surgery is equivalent to the medical approach to health. True holistic health practitioners look beyond obvious signs & symptoms to the actual origins of dis-ease & work to re-establish your natural state of ease. In other words, we take our foot off of the dog’s tail.
